Making College Transitions Easier for VMI Families
As parents of an alumni and current cadet, we understand the nuances of No Ordinary College! As out-of-state parents for our first cadet, we dealt with the stress and chaos of getting all of the necessary, specific gear on the matriculation list and then getting it all to and from post every year. As each year passed, she accumulated more and more items. One year, we wondered if we had enough space in our vehicle for our cadet and her belongings!
We recently relocated to the Lexington area. When we arrived, we wondered what we could do in order to make the transition to college easier for international and out-of-state cadets? We reached out to the Global Studies office and offered to store items for the international cadets over the summer to see if this would help make their travel home and back to post easier for them. After a successful trial run, we decided to offer this service to the entire VMI family. You don’t have to be an international cadet, or out-of-state-cadet to appreciate this super convenient service. Perhaps you’re just like me and you don’t enjoy having your laundry room taken over by all of your college students' belongings for four months? Whatever the situation may be, if you are looking for a stress-free way to breeze into furlough each summer - look no further.
